An Illustrated Profile of NFL Draft Prospect Malcolm Jenkins

Ohio State’s Malcolm Jenkins is one of, if not the top cornerback prospect in the 2009 NFL draft class. At this point it appears he is neck and neck with Illinois’ Vontae Davis for that honor, and both appear to have solid futures in the NFL.
Jenkins is a physical cornerback with good size at six foot and 205 pounds. He has great speed and cover skills along with a good short-range burst to close on his opponent. He displays solid footwork, has a quick backpedal, and fluid hips to turn and run with just about any receiver. He also has good ball skills and adjusts well to the ball while it is in the air.
As an impact player with great instincts who anticipates very well what the offense is trying to do, Jenkins has been a key figure on an annually-tough Ohio State defense for several years.
If there is an area he could stand to improve somewhat, though, it’s against the run and perhaps jamming receivers at the line of scrimmage. Other than that, he has few weakness.
