Washington State WR Brandon Gibson (6-0 1/8, 206 pounds) held a one-man workout Saturday at Chief Sealth High School in Seattle in front of representatives from 15 NFL teams, including Chargers senior executive Randy Mueller and 49ers director of player personnel Trent Baalke.
Gibson was unable to run at the NFL Scouting Combine or the Washington State Pro Day, instead opting to hold his own workout. The event was held outside in a light rain, which wasn’t ideal, though the surface was good. Let’s just put it this way: Scouts were reminded why it’s nice to have indoor facilities.
Gibson did the 40-yard dash three times in a 5-mph wind, running in 4.63 seconds against the wind and 4.58 and 4.60 seconds with it. He also had a 34-inch vertical leap, a 9-foot, 5-inch broad jump, and times of 4.54 seconds in the short shuttle and 6.94 seconds in the three-cone drill.
Jeff Rowe, a former University of Nevada quarterback who has spent time with the Bengals and Seahawks, threw passes to Gibson.
New Mexico State
CB Vince Butler (5-9 3/4, 186 pounds) looked strong at New Mexico State’s pro day, which was held on March 11, with 12 players working out for representatives from five NFL teams.
Butler, who will work out for the Cowboys on April 13, had times of 4.46 and 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a 34 1/2-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 7-inch broad jump. He also had a 4.05-second short shuttle and a 6.76-second three-cone drill, and he did 14 repetitions on the bench press.
QB Chase Holbrook (6-4 5/8, 244 pounds) stood on his numbers from the combine.
The players ran outdoors on FieldTurf.
William & Mary
The pro day for William & Mary took place on March 23, with two players working out for representatives from four NFL teams.
CB Derek Cox (6-1 1/4, 188 pounds) got a strong look, and he’ll work out with the Raiders and Patriots next week. He had times of 4.39 and 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a 36 1/2-inch vertical and an 11-foot, 8-inch broad jump. He also had a 4.11-second short shuttle and a 6.80-second three-cone drill, and he did 12 reps on the bench press.
