Crabtree won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best college receiver after both of his two seasons with the Red Raiders, for whom he caught 231 passes for 41 touchdowns.
Crabtree was widely expected to be the first receiver selected, but he might have slipped in teams’ estimation when a stress fracture was discovered in his left foot at the NFL Scouting Combine, forcing him to cancel several workouts for NFL teams.
Crabtree has mostly recovered from surgery on the injury, but nine teams passed on him — including the nearby Oakland Raiders, who went with Maryland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey.
