The Seahawks had problems on their offensive line in 2009.

But, they were not alone, Blame it on injuries, Blame it on free agency, Blame it on ineffective play.

Whatever the reason – or reasons – the Seahawks using 10 starters last season tied for second most in the league with the Oakland Raiders. The Buffalo Bills were No. 1, with 11.

The Seahawks used four starters at left tackle – Sean Locklear, Brandon Frye, Kyle Williams and Damion McIntosh. Only Locklear is still with the team, and he’s back at right tackle. They also used three starters at left guard – the since-traded Rob Sims, Mansfield Wrotto and Steve Vallos. Chris Spencer and Max Unger both started at center as well as right guard, while Vallos also started two games at center. Only right tackle Ray Willis made 16 starts at the same position – right tackle.

The story indicates that the Seahawks used six different starting combinations, which would have tied them for third most with the Raiders, St. Louis Rams, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. But the Seahawks actually used seven different combos, which tied the Detroit Lions for second. Again, the Bills were No. 1, with nine.

This spring, the Seahawks have new starters on the left side – first-round draft choice Russell Okung at tackle and free-agent addition Ben Hamilton at guard. Spencer is back at center, Unger back at right guard and Locklear back at right tackle.
