Seattle Seahawks fifth-round safety Kam Chancellor has signed a four-year contract worth a maximum of $2.83 million dollars
ESPN’s Adam Schefter adds that Chancellor’s four-year deal is worth $2.83 million dollars, a figure that includes a fourth-year base salary escalator.
A high school quarterback who began his college career at Virginia Tech as a cornerback, Chancellor was moved to free safety his junior season after starting as a sophomore in the Cavaliers’ “Rover” position on defense. In 54 career games, Chancellor totaled 208 tackles, including 4.5 for a loss, and intercepted six passes.
Chancellor lacks the speed (ran a 4.62 at the Combine) and ball-skills necessary to play free safety in the NFL. At 6-3 and 231 pounds, Chancellor has the thumping ability that Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll looks for in a strong safety.
Chancellor, the second of the Seahawks’ nine 2010 Draft choices to agree to terms on a contract, is expected to make an immediate contribution on special teams. Sixth-round tight end Anthony McCoy signed a four-year deal on Tuesday.
