Coach Pete Carroll’s statement last month that Leon Washington was expected to be ready for training camp was met with arched eyebrows of suspicion.

Really? Back practicing after suffering a compound fracture of his right leg on Oct. 25 last season?

Sure enough, there was Washington Saturday morning, wearing shoulders beneath his No. 33 jersey practicing as the Seahawks began practice. Consider it a fresh start for Washington, whose sons Leon Jr., 4, and Noel — that’s Leon spelled backwards — will be attending Sunday’s practice.

Was returning in time for training camp a goal that Washington set?

“It’s one of my goals,” Washington said. “It’s not the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is to become a Pro Bowl player again.”
