Seahawks RB Julius Jones Odd Man Out

Published on August 23, 2010 by     T.C.

WILL THE CHARLIE WHITEHURST SUPPORTERS FROM LAST WEEK PLEASE STAND UP.

(CRICKET NOISES)

NO? O-K THEN. THE DEFENSE RESTS. BUT I’M SURE YOU’LL BE BACK SOON, ESPECIALLY IF RUSSELL OKUNG DOESN’T RETURN QUICKLY.

OKUNG IS NOW OUT WITH AN ANKLE SPRAIN. WE’LL FIND OUT TOMORROW HOW BAD IT IS. WITH RAY WILLIS ALSO OUT, IT’S A STORY ALL TOO FAMILIAR TO SEAHAWK FANS.

WE DON’T NEED SANDRA BULLOCK TO TELL US HOW IMPORTANT THE BLIND SIDE IS. BECAUSE OF INJURIES LAST YEAR THE ‘HAWKS LEFT TACKLES INCLUDED SEAN LOCKLEAR, DAMIEN MC-INTOSH, BRANDON FRYE, KYLE WILLIAMS, SNEEZY, BASHFUL AND DOC. AND WE SAW HOW WELL THAT WORKED OUT. GET BETTER, RUSSELL. WE NEED YOU EVEN MORE THAN YOU NEEDED THE 27 MILLION DOLLARS, GUARANTEED.

THAT SAID, WE’VE LEARNED A LOT THE FIRST TWO GAMES. MIKE WILLIAMS IS A PLAYMAKER AND SHOULD BE THE COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

WITH HIM COMPLEMENTING THIS OFFENSE, I ACTUALLY FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH T-J HOUSHMANDZADEH AND DEION BRANCH AS OUR STARTING WIDEOUTS, ALTHOUGH I’M NEVER OPPOSED TO ADDING VINCENT JACKSON TOO.

DESPITE THEIR POTENTIAL, EARL THOMAS AND GOLDEN TATE ARE STILL ROOKIES, AND GROWING PAINS ARE PART OF THE DEAL.

AND AS GOOD AS MARCUS TRUFANT LOOKS, THE SEAHAWKS FIRST-TEAM DEFENSE STILL ISN’T STOPPING ANYONE – JUST ASK JEMARCUS FINLEY’S CLOSEST DEFENDER HERE.

AND THEN THERE’S THE RUNNING GAME, WHICH – SHOCKER – IS STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS. BUT LEON WASHINGTON WAS A SPARK PLUG LAST NIGHT. AND JUSTIN FORSETT, THE SAME THE WEEK BEFORE.

THOSE TWO BACKS SHOULD GO ONE-TWO – IN EITHER ORDER THE TEAM WANTS. WHICH MEANS JULIUS JONES IS THE ODD MAN OUT.

FOR TWO SEASONS, EVEN WHILE THE TEAM STRUGGLED, I’VE SUPPORTED JULIUS JONES AS THE STARTER. I LIKE HIM AS A PERSON. I THINK HE GOT A BUM DEAL WITH ALL THE INJURIES TO THE OFFENSIVE LINE.

BUT NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE WASHINGTON-FORSETT COMBO IN THE SEAHAWKS BACKFIELD. NOT JUST BECAUSE OF EXPLOSIVENESS AND TALENT, BUT BECAUSE OF VERSATILITY.

WHO WOULD YOU RATHER CATCH THE BALL ON A SCREEN PASS?

WHO CAN ALSO PLAY SPECIAL TEAMS?

WHO CAN CATCH A SLANT OVER THE MIDDLE, FULL STRIDE LIKE WE SAW LAST WEEK?

IT’S LIKE ANY CORPORATE OFFICE – STICKING WITH EMPLOYEES WHOSE SKILL SETS ARE BIGGER. AND THAT’S WHAT WE GET WITH LEON WASHINGTON AND JUSTIN FORSETT.
