M.A.S.H. — Seahawks edition

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck won’t practice with the Seahawks on Wednesday, but coach Pete Carroll hopes to have him back on the field Thursday and expects him to be available to play Sunday against the Giants. In Hasselbeck’s absence, Charlie Whitehurst will serve as the first-unit quarterback.

“He’s still involved with everything that’s going on,” Carroll said of Hasselbeck, “but he won’t take any of the workload today. We’ll see how he does in the morning (Thursday). It’s a great for Charlie to get the opportunity to run the club for a day, and he’s going to take full advantage of that.”

Is he still confident Hasselbeck will be available to play?

” I am,” Carroll said. “I think that just talking to him and being around him and all, he feels pretty good. Just to do all of the right stuff, we have to give him a good day break, which he can use this time of the year anyway. We’ll try to take advantage of this on the other and let Charlie get as many turns as he can and look forward to Matt jumping back in tomorrow.”

Player Injury Prognosis

QB Matt Hasselbeck Concussion Won’t practice Wednesday, but is expected to play.

DE Red Bryant Right knee Out for the year after suffering a torn medial-collateral ligament (MCL). Expected to undergo surgery this week.

G Ben Hamilton Concussion Out for the year, unable to report to the team’s headquarters the previous two days.

WR Mike Williams Leg bruise Will not practice Wednesday, but may play. “Mike won’t go today, but his deal, it’s really a thigh bruise just above his knee,” Carroll said. “We think he’ll be OK by the weekend.”

WR Golden Tate Ankle Remains in plastic protective boot, not practicing Wednesday and considered unlikely to play this weekend. “Golden Tate’s hobbling and he doesn’t look like he’s going to make it at this time,” Carroll said. “We have him as doubtful at this time. There’s always a chance he can bounce back, but right now, he’s still in the boot and all that.”

DT Colin Cole Ankle Will not practice and is out for Sunday’s game. “He’s got a serious ankle sprain,” Carroll said. “It’s going to take him a while so he’ll miss a couple weeks.”

DT Brandon Mebane Calf Has missed three games and will not practice Wednesday, but may be available against New York. “Mebane is going to try to get some work done before the week is out,” Carroll said. “We think he’s going to play in the game.”

OT Tyler Polumbus Knee Will not practice Wednesday. “We don’t know if he’s going to be able to go or not,” coach Pete Carroll said. “We’ll find out in a couple of days where he is.”

OT Russell Okung Ankle Will not practice Wednesday, but has not been ruled out for this week. “We had hoped he would practice (Wednesday),” coach Pete Carroll said, “but (Tuesday) wasn’t a productive enough day for him to practice today.”

CB Walter Thurmond Concussion Expected to practice without limitation Wednesday.

CB Kelly Jennings Hamstring Expected to practice without limitation Wednesday.
