Purple and crimson are up, ready to go NOW!

Hola from a freezing Martin Stadium. Arrived early to see more workers doing finishing touches on clearing the playing surface, scraping away what leftover snow and ice there was from the previous couple of days.

Also, workers are going through the seating-area aisles, whisking away the snow/ice that remains in the seats with towels and rags.

No snow for kickoff. The wind might kick up.

Easily visible from the press box is the long, long, LONG line (3-4 city blocks) of students who are waiting to get into their section. Yes, a few likely have not slept all night, and are, well … you connect the dots. It is Pullman.

Here is what I filed last night when the Huskies arrived for their walkthrough (they did stay in Moscow on Friday night):

It was a rather peaceful Friday amid freezing temperatures for the University of Washington football team as it arrived on campus for its usual pre-game walkthrough.

Three buses full of Huskies players and coaches filed near Bohler Gymnasium shortly after 5 p.m. – escorted by six Washington State Patrol cars. No fans from either UW or Washington State awaited the team’s arrival.

Coach Steve Sarkisian was the first to emerge, dressed in a suit and overcoat. A stern look was painted all over his face as he headed for the visitor’s locker room. He passed near a corridor where a “Welcome to Cougar Country” sign draped off the railing.

Players followed wearing their dark-colored sweatsuits. Most had knitted hats over their heads. None seemed adversely affected by the cold.

“One layer (of clothing),” UW offensive lineman Gregory Christine said as he passed by.

Some WSU fans did heckle the players once they got on the field for their walkthrough, but nothing Cougar-esque.

The Palouse region got another round of snowfall Thursday night and into the early stages of Friday morning – about two more inches.

Officials from WSU brought in six big dump trucks and four tractors to clear the Martin Stadium turf of the snow – and had the surface clear after lunch time.

Approximately 75 dump-truck loads of snow has been taken away from the field this week, one WSU athletic department member said Friday.
