ASU’s Taylor trying to follow in uncle’s footsteps

Published on March 25, 2011 by     Seahawk Fanatic

Arizona State’s Kerry Taylor should know a thing or two about what it takes to be a successful receiver in the NFL. That is, if he’s taken the time to speak in depth with his uncle, former 49ers receiver John Taylor, who won three Super Bowls in San Francisco as Jerry Rice’s sidekick.

Kerry Taylor (6-foot-0 ½, 196 pounds) began his journey to the NFL Friday at the Sun Devils’ pro day, working out in front of 32 teams outdoors on grass. He was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, so this was his first chance to impress and he delivered.

Taylor ran 4.55 And 4.54 seconds in the 40-yard dash, 4.19 in the short shuttle and 6.62 in the 3-cone drills, had a 38-inch vertical jump and 10-foot broad jump. He caught the ball well and looked fluid during his individual workout.

Other notable performances:

DL Lawrence Guy (6-5, 304) ran 5.00 and 5.01 40s and a 7.40 3-cone drill. He stood on everything else from the combine and had an individual workout.

K Thomas Webber (6-0 ¼, 205) made every field goal and has a good, strong leg that should suit him well in the NFL.
