The Bengals only send defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle to pro days when they have serious thoughts about drafting a particular player.
So the fact that Coyle was present at Nebraska’s pro day held Thursday must mean only one thing: They have their eyes on CB Prince Amukamara.
The Bengals hold the No. 4 overall pick in the draft, and with all the recent talk of LSU CB Patrick Peterson potentially going No. 1, Cincinnati might be wise to take a hard look at Amukamara.
In my estimation, Amukamara (6 ½ feet, 205 pounds), who stood on his NFL Scouting Combine numbers but looked very smooth and fluid in his workout, is worth a top-10 selection. The good thing about him is that he can play press coverage and off coverage, which makes him ready for the NFL. He’s not afraid to tackle, either.
Among the other 18 players to workout indoors on FieldTurf:
WR/KR Niles Paul (6-1 ½, 225) — He ran 4.45 and 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash and had a 36-inch vertical jump. He stood on everything else at the combine.
RB Roy Helu (6-0 3/8, 220) — He stood on his combine numbers and did position drills.
DB Eric Hagg (6-2, 206) — He ran 4.57 and 4.55 in the 40 and had a 38½-inch vertical. He looked good in individual drills.
S Dejon Gomes (5-11 7/8) — He stood on his combine numbers, but he did the short shuttle in 4.15 seconds and the 3-cone drill in 6.82.
P/K Alex Henry (6-1 7/8, 178) – He worked out for scouts after averaging 43.9 yards per punt last season.
K Adi Kunalic (5-11 ¾, 184) – He’s a kickoff specialist who worked out. In his four years at Nebraska, he had 125 touchbacks. He’ll be considered by a team wanting a kickoff specialist.Seahawks 12th Man Army has now gone mobile! Go to http://www.noticeorange.com/r/Seahawks12thManArmy to get an app for your phone.
