There’s a hybrid, and then there’s California’s Cameron Jordan who might be asked to go the extra mile.
The Golden Bears’ defensive end had his talents on full display at the school’s pro day on Wednesday in front of 30 scouts from 15 NFL teams. He was even asked to do something he rarely does.
Somebody got the wild idea of having Jordan drop in coverage, in addition to his regular position drills. He’s a good prospect, but how in the world can you get a 286-pound defensive end to cover anybody? Maybe he is that good, though.
Jordan, who measured 6-foot-4 3/8, lived up to his billing with a solid workout. He could go in the top 15 picks.
Among the other 16 players to work out, there were a few notables:
LB Mike Mohamed (6-3, 241) did position workouts.
S Chris Conte (6-2 5/8, 199) ran 4.55 seconds twice in the 40-yard dash and did position workouts.
CB Darian Hagan (5-11 5/8, 180) ran 4.59 and 4.61 in the 40, 4.26 in the short shuttle and 7.28 in the 3-cone drill. He had a 9-foot-7 broad jump and 34-inch vertical jump, and did five bench-press repetitions at 225 pounds.
RB Shane Vereen (5-10, 211) did position drills only.
WR/KR Jeremy Ross (5-11 7/8, 209) ran 4.46 and 4.48 40s, a 4.24 short shuttle and 7.19 3-cone drill. He had a 9-9 broad jump and 39-inch vertical, and also did 22 bench-press reps.
