There have been a lot of people calling for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to go ahead and get rid of cornerback Aqib Talib, who’s been quite the distraction lately. Those people may feel justified with the news that felony arrest warrants have been issued for Talib and his mother.
The warrent is for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon – a second-degree felony that’s punishable by five to 20 years in prison, and, per the Tampa Tribune , Talib is scheduled to turn himself into Garland, Texas, police later in the week. His bail has been set at $25,000.
Police have accused Talib and his mother of firing gunshots at his sister’s boyfriend March 21. Earlier in the day, the boyfriend had been listed as a suspect in a disturbance, and from that incident, police charged him with assault and interference with an emergency phone call.
Talib’s mother, Okolo Talib, turned herself in on Tuesday afternoon. Her bond was set at $30,000 based on a previous conviction.
This isn’t exactly Talib’s first “violent incident” either — in 2008, Talib, a Bucs’ first-round pick that year, got in a fight with Cory Boyd at the Rookie Symposium. In 2009, Talib got in a fight with teammate Donald Penn.

In 2009, Talib was also charged with resisting arrest and simple battery and was then suspended for the first game of the 2010 season.
Were the personal conduct policy currently enforceable, it’s likely that Talib would see a significant suspension from the NFL for his problems in Texas. But for now, he’ll have to settle with simply facing the legal authoritie
UPDATED (5:07 p.m.): Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik just released a statement: “We are deeply troubled by the serious charges filed against Aqib Talib. Due to current labor circumstances, we will withhold any further comment or action.”
