Jets’ Sanchez assists at Colorado’s pro day

Published on March 10, 2011 by     Seahawk Fanatic

Colorado WR Scotty McKnight had a little boost Wednesday at the Buffaloes’ pro day that might have just helped him earn his way into the NFL.

McKnight’s childhood friend, Jets QB Mark Sanchez, took part in the day’s events, throwing passes to McKnight during his official workout in front of representatives from 12 NFL teams.

McKnight (5-foot-10 1/2, 182 pounds), who was not at the NFL Scouting Combine, ran 4.49 and 4.58 seconds in the 40-yard dash, 6.84 in the 3-cone drill and 4.04 in the short shuttle. He also had a 10-foot broad jump and 34-inch vertical to go with 13 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

Now, all those numbers are OK. But the fact that Sanchez was there to help McKnight during his workout just might sneak him into the NFL as a seventh-rounder. McKnight’s a good receiver, and catching passes from Sanchez only made him look better.

Colorado’s other notable workouts:

CB Jimmy Smith (6-2 3/8, 210) — He stood on his combine numbers, but did a 37-inch vertical jump. He had a solid position workout. Smith is a talented guy who needs to work harder and get in better shape and take these workouts seriously. Because does have talent, but he sometimes doesn’t play up to it. He’s definitely the No. 3 corner in this draft behind Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara.

OL Nate Solder (6-8, 307) — He stood on all of his numbers from his impressive combine. He did position drills, and he looked good just as good as he did in Indy.

CB Jalil Brown (6-0 5/8, 206) ran 4.46 twice in the 40, had a 35 ½-inch vertical jump and a 4.22 short shuttle. He maintained his combine numbers on everything else.
