Three players who attended the NFL Scouting Combine were among those highlighted at Central Florida’s pro day on Wednesday, but a fourth who wasn’t at the combine probably worked his way into the draft.
Wide receiver Kamar Aiken impressed representatives from all 32 NFL teams who were in attendance at the indoor workout on FieldTurf, particularly during his individual workouts. A total of 10 players worked out for observers, including Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Gene Smith, Chicago Bears director of player personnel Tim Ruskell and Baltimore Ravens offensive line coach Andy Moeller.
Aiken measured 6-foot-1 1/8 and weighed 213 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds and 4.50. He had a 36 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-8 broad jump, a 4.36-second short shuttle and a 7.10 3-cone drill.
One player who was at the combine whose stock is rising is tackle Jah Reid (6-7 1/2, 321). Several teams have worked Reid out, and even though he fully participated at the combine, he insisted on doing all of the drills over again, which left a favorable impression on NFL personnel. Reid ran 5.32 and 5.29 in the 40, had a 29-inch vertical jump, a 9-3 broad jump, a 4.59 short shuttle and a 7.59 3-cone. He also bench pressed 23 reps of 225 pounds.
Defensive end/outside linebacker Bruce Miller (6-1 5/8, 248) also did the drills again despite running them at the combine, and in addition to his defensive positions, teams worked him out at fullback. Miller ran 40s of 4.65 and 4.67, jumped a 33 1/2 vertical and a 9-7 broad jump, and he clocked 4.31 in the short shuttle and 6.75 in the 3-cone.
Wide receiver Jamar Newsome (6-0 5/8, 201) re-tested in many of the categories as well, demonstrating good quickness. He had 40 clockings of 4.48 and 4.44, a 33 vertical jump, an 11-foot broad jump, and a 4.23 short shuttle. While Newsome’s athleticism impressed, he did not catch a lot of passes cleanly.Seahawks 12th Man Army has now gone mobile!
