The Seattle Seahawks have filled their left guard spot, according to reports that Robert Gallery has agreed to sign with the team.
The long-speculated deal will reunite Gallery, a free agent from the Oakland Raiders, with Tom Cable, who was hired to coach the Seahawks’ offensive line in January. Cable was the Raiders’ head coach the past three seasons and coached their O-line in 2007-08.
The 6-foot-7, 325-pound Gallery was the Raiders’ first-round draft choice in 2004. He started 91 games the past seven seasons – at right tackle, left tackle and left guard, where he has played since 2007.
With the Seahawks, Gallery, 31, will join an inexperienced starting unit that is expected to include Russell Okung, a first-round draft choice last year, at left tackle; Max Unger, a second-round pick in 2009, at center; and rookies John Moffitt and James Carpenter at right guard and right tackle. Carpenter and Moffitt were the team’s top two picks in the April NFL Draft.
