Carroll: Marshawn Lynch out for Denver game

Published on August 25, 2011 by     Tacoma News Tribune (Feed)

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that starting running back Marshawn Lynch will not play this week against Denver.

Lynch hadn’t practiced since Tuesday, and was a spectator at practice today.

“He’s okay,” Carroll said. “He’s got a little bit of a sore ankle, and we’re going to rest him this week to make sure that we can get him well.”

Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson talked to reporters today, emphasizing the importance of Seattle’s offense establishing some rhythm.

“We just want to move the ball and put some points on the board,” Jackson said. “We want to show some improvement. We want to get better than we showed last week.

“We want to cut down the penalties a little bit – to zero if possible. Execute the passing and the run game, and just make sure that we’re executing on all cylinders because this will pretty much be our last test probably of the preseason until the regular season starts.

Receiver Ben Obomanu will play this week for the first time in exhibition play. Obomanu is coming off of a minor shoulder issue, and Carroll just wanted to make sure that he’s okay.

Carroll said that Obomanu likely will play at least a half.

“Ben is looking great,” Carroll said. “We’ve had him out here quite a bit, but just not steady, full speed going out here with everybody. We got kind of glimpses of him, but this week he worked very hard. And remember Ben started the last half of last season and really made a difference for us, and he’s just picked up right where he left off.”

Expect to see Obomanu in the slot with the first unit when they run three-receiver sets.

Starting linebackers Aaron Curry (knee) and Leroy Hill (knee) were full speed today, and are expected to play on Saturday. But David Hawthorne (knee) will not play this week, which means rookie K.J. Wright will get his first start.

And safety Kam Chancellor (foot) did not practice, which means Josh Pinkard will get the start at strong safety next to Earl Thomas.

Defensive end Chris Clemons (ankle) practiced today and will play for the first time in preseason action.
