Seahawks look to upgrade at TE with Zach Miller

The Seattle  Seahawks have already made their impact felt in free agency this season, and they’re not done just yet.

According to ESPN NFL insider John Clayton, the Seahawks are making a strong run after free agent tight end Zach Miller from the Raiders.

“From what I’m hearing they’re very serious about maybe upgrading the tight end position and adding, at this moment, the best tight end that’s on the market,” Clayton said on Monday’s Kevin Calabro Show.

At 6-foot-5, 255 lbs., Miller would be an imposing addition to an already large receiving core. With newly acquired WR Sidney Rice standing at 6-foot-4, and Mike Williams at 6-foot-5, Miller’s addition would give the Seahawks a very young, dangerous offense.

“If they get Zach Miller, they got Sidney Rice, they got Mike Williams – I mean a very much upgraded type of offense, and a very talented team,” said Clayton.

Incumbent starter John Carlson has struggled the past two seasons after a stellar freshman campaign where he became the first rookie since Steve Largent in 1984 to lead the team in receptions (55) and receiving yards (627). Although Carlson still has much to prove, Miller would give the Seahawks’ two talented players at a position where receiving is a luxury to have.

“[Miller's] a guy that may not be the fastest tight end, but he was really the main guy in their offense. I mean he catches everything, he runs great routes – he is a bonafide Pro Bowl-caliber tight end, and a guy the Raiders can’t afford to lose,” said Clayton.

Miller is third on the Raiders career receiving list for tight ends with 226 receptions, 2,712 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, in four seasons with Oakland.

Miller would be a steal, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Al Davis is crazy, he'll put out millions more than the Hawks will to sign him.
