Hawthorne looking for Happy Homecoming II

Published on November 4, 2011 by     Tacoma News Tribune (Feed)

Seattle Seahawks linebacker David Hawthorne is looking forward to another happy homecoming.

Hawthorne gets a second chance to play against the team he grew up rooting for when Seattle travels to Dallas to play the Cowboys this Sunday.

Hawthorne hales from Corsicana, Texas, about an hour’s drive south of Dallas. The 26-year-old grew up a big Cowboys fan. The former TCU star played well against Dallas in his first game on Nov. 1, 2009, finishing with eight tackles and two sacks in a 38-17 Seattle loss in Dallas.

But Hawthorne is seeking a better result this time.

“It’s big because we play so far from Texas,” Hawthorne said. “And our games don’t get broadcast there, unless you get some kind of special cable package that a lot our friends and family don’t have. So you get an opportunity for your family to come see you, and watch you play live and in person. And friends get to tune in and see that you’re doing it. You’re still (representing) your city and making them proud.”

Hawthorne said he’ll have several family members and friends in attendance, but he’s still working on rustling up enough tickets and doesn’t have a final number yet.

“I don’t know that count,” Hawthorne said. “The tally’s still going up.”

When the Seahawks faced Dallas in 2009, the Cowboys had recently opened Cowboys Stadium, their $1.2 billion palatial home in Arlington, Texas. Only a handful of players remain on the Seattle roster who played in that game.

“I don’t even think half of the people are still here that went down there,” Hawthorne said. “It’s definitely not in our minds. We’re just going down there to get back on our feet and get rolling and start playing football.”
