Michael Robinson re-signs with Seahawks

Published on March 18, 2012 by     Tacoma News Tribune (Feed)

The Seattle Seahawks made sure another key piece of the team’s effective running game last season will be around for a little longer.

Fullback Michael Robinson announced via Twitter that he had reached an agreement to stay in Seattle.

Terms of Robinson’s deal were not disclosed, and a spokesman for the team indicated a deal has not been completed, but is expected.

“12th Man, please(d) to announce I will be coming back next season! Time to win,” Robinson posted on his Twitter account.

Robinson, 28, was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his six-year career after helping Marshawn Lynch rush for a career-best 1,204 yards and touchdowns in a club-record 11 consecutive games in the 2011 season.

The Penn State product also is one of the vocal leaders for the Seahawks and a special teams captain, finishing with 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a blocked punt return for a score last season.

Robinson is the sixth Seattle player to either re-sign or agree to terms with the team. The Seahawks have yet to sign a free agent from another team during the first three days of free agency.

However, another former Seattle player may be moving close to finding a new team.

Cornerback Marcus Trufant will visit the Denver Broncos today. Trufant was released by Seattle last week to allow him to get a jump on free agency.

The Broncos are looking for depth at cornerback, and Trufant could provide insurance in case the team doesn’t find help in the draft.

Trufant has a couple of connections with Denver – Broncos secondary coach Ron Milus and Trufant are both Tacoma natives. Milus played at Lincoln High and the University of Washington, while Trufant played at Wilson High and Washington State University.

Also, Trufant’s former agent, Mike Sullivan, is now Denver’s salary cap specialist.

Former Seahawks offensive guard Steve Hutchinson decided against a return to his old stomping grounds after visiting the team on Wednesday. Instead, he accepted a three-year, $16 million deal, including $6 million guaranteed, to play for Tennessee.

Also, Tennessee defensive end Jason Jones and Green Bay backup quarterback Matt Flynn arrived in Seattle on Thursday evening to tour the team’s facility, and will stay through today.

At 6-foot-5 and 276 pounds, Jones can play both outside at defensive end and inside at pass-rushing defensive tackle during obvious passing situations.

According to an ESPN report, Flynn has scheduled a visit to Miami after his trip concludes in Seattle today. Possibly, the Dolphins have come to the realization they are not in play for Peyton Manning and are turning their full attention to Flynn.
