The Seahawks’ Pete Carroll was named NFC Coach of the Year on Saturday night during the NFL 101 Award ceremony in Kansas City.
Carroll, in his third season as Seahawks coach, led the team to the third-best record in franchise history (11-5) and the team also won a road playoff game for the first time since 1983. Carroll finished third in voting for the AP Coach of the Year earlier this offseason.
“We’re proud of where we are right now,” Carroll said in the story announcing the winners. “(Quarterback) Russell Wilson is one of the most exciting players in the league and could turn any program around.”
Peyton Manning won his seventh 101 Award, as the Broncos’ quarterback was named AFC offensive player of the year. Other honorees included: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, NFC offensive player of the year; Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, AFC defensive player of the year; 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith, NFC defensive player of the year; and Chuck Pagano and Bruce Arians of the Colts were co-winners for AFC coach of the year.
