Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll joined Brock Huard and Danny O’Neil of 710 ESPN Seattle this morning.
And Carroll made a bit of news, saying that tight end Zach Miller is not expected to play on Friday at Green Bay, considered a dress rehearsal for the regular season.
Miller has been out since the beginning of training camp with a foot issue, although Carroll has consistently said the injury is unrelated to the torn plantar fascia Miller suffered against Atlanta in the NFC Divisional playoffs.
However, Miller was activated off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list last week, and expected to practice this week beginning on Tuesday.
Carroll said the defensive end Cliff Avril, who’s been nursing hamstring and foot injuries, has not been ruled out for Friday’s game in Green Bay.
Along with Miller, DT Tony McDaniel (groin), WR Bryan Walters (hamstring) and DB Ron Parker (hamstring) are expected to make it back on the field this week.
Carroll also said he’s hopeful that linebacker Bruce Irvin (groin) will be ready by the middle of the week to practice again.
Carroll also said the team’s current seven-game winning streak in preseason games means something.
“It means a lot for us as a team because we’re leaning how to win,” Carroll said. “We’re learning how we win, and what it feels like. And the things we’re trying to show in our play is coming out. We’re trying to take care of that football. We’re trying to ball hawk the football.”
Carroll mentioned running backs Christine Michael and Spencer Ware, offensive linemen Alvin Bailey and Michael Bowie, along with center Jared Smith as young players who have stood out through the first two exhibition games.
Carroll also mentioned the play of receiver Stephen Williams and the aggressive play of Jeremy Lane, Byron Maxwell and Walter Thurmond in the secondary as things that have caught his attention during training camp and in the games.
