PLAYER OF THE GAME

Tarvaris Jackson. The veteran QB didn’t get his chance until the third quarter, after Russell Wilson started

and was replaced by Brady Quinn. But Jackson made the wait worth it by completing 8 of 9 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

That’s works out to 158.3 passer rating, which definitely works.

Jackson’s best throw was his 42-yard TD pass to Stephen Williams on the first play of the fourth quarter that made it 24-3. But he also had a 6-yard scoring pass to rookie running Derrick Coleman and set up a TD run by rookie Spencer Ware with a 41-yard completion to Williams.

Not bad for a guy whose last extended stint in a game came in the 2011 season finale against the Cardinals – before he didn’t play a snap for the Bills last summer after the Seahawks traded him.

“He’s been doing it all camp,” Wilson said. “He does such an unbelievable job of commanding the huddle, making the right reads, throwing the ball to the right guy.”

PLAYS OF THE GAME

Offense: Williams had the two big catches, both on go-routes. So we let him decided which catch was better.

“The touchdown is always the best thing,” he said of his falling grab in the back corner of the end zone. “You get a 1-yard touchdown you’re still happy.”

Offered Wilson, “His size is great and his speed is really something else. It kind of opens your eyes a little bit. He gets down the field so fast. That touchdown he caught, the (defender) was probably 12 yards off and he just caught up to him quickly. And that’s a threat.”

Defense: With the Chargers leading 3-0, and driving again, third-year cornerback Byron Maxwell intercepted a Charlie Whitehurst pass at the Seahawks’ 44-yard line and returned it 28 yards to the Chargers’ 28.

Special teams: In a battle of the punt returners, the nod goes to Walter Thurmond because he had the longest of three long returns – a 46-yarder that setup another special teams play, Carson Wiggs’ 22-yard field goal.

INJURY REPORT

The Seahawks did not sustain any serious injuries, Carroll said. Maxwell got a slight ankle sprain. Defensive lineman Jay Howard twisted a knee, but was able to return.

YOU DON’T SAY

“He was on it. He threw some great balls. He played great.” – Carroll on Jackson
