The Seattle Seahawks physically manhandled the San Francisco 49ers in a 29-3 victory Sunday evening in front of a record crowd of 68,338 at CenturyLink Field.
Seattle’s defense led the way, holding the 49ers explosive offense to 207 total yards. A week after Colin Kaepernick threw for 412 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Green Bay, the Seahawks held the San Francisco quarterback to a career-low 107 yards passing as a starter.
Kaepernick only threw three interceptions in 218 regular-season attempts last season. The Seahawks picked him off three times on Sunday, with Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman all finishing with interceptions.
With the win, the Seahawks now sit alone atop the NFC West, jumping out to a 2-0 to start for the first time since 2006.
The Seahawks have won 10 of their past 11 home openers since 2003. The victory also gave Pete Carroll a fitting present on his 62nd birthday.
The Seahawks have now outscored San Francisco 71-16 in the last two meetings, both wins for Seattle.
The game was suspended for an hour due to unsafe weather conditions due to lightning visible from the stadium at 6:05 p.m., with the two teams tied at 0-0 and 3:13 left in the opening quarter.
The Seahawks needed the break. Up until the point, Seattle had managed just 27 yards of total offense. Seattle was 0-for-3 on third downs, and Russell Wilson was 0-for-6 passing with an interception to Eric Reid.
But Seattle finally got its offense on track. After struggling to run the ball against Carolina last week, Marshawn Lynch ran for 98 yards on 28 carries, including touchdown runs of 14 and 2 yards.
Lynch also had a 7-yard reception for a touchdown.
Russell Wilson was not at his best, but didn’t need to be. Wilson completed 8 of 19 passes for 142 yards, one touchdown pass to Lynch and one interception.http://www.noticeorange.com/r/Seahawks12thManArmy to get an app for your phone.
