Look who’s second in the NFL in rushing. With his 125-yard performance against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Marshawn Lynch has moved into the No. 2 spot among the league’s leading rushers.

In the Seahawks’ first nine games, Marshawn Lynch has gone from nowhere to almost there among the NFL’s leading rushers.

After rushing for 43 yards in the season-opening win against the Panthers in Carolina, Lynch was tied for 27th in the league. A 98-yard effort against the San Francisco 49ers in the home opener vaulted the Seahawks’ Beast Mode back to No. 11. Lynch then moved to No. 8 by running for 69 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars at CenturyLink Field the next week.

Lynch inched up two more spots after a 98-yard outing in the overtime win against the Texans in Houston in Week 4, and jumped to No. 6 after his first 100-yard game (102) in the Week 5 loss against the Colts in Indianapolis. A 77-yard effort against the Tennessee Titans kept Lynch in the third spot.

He moved up to No. 2 after a 91-yard game against the Cardinals in Arizona, slipped to No. 4 after getting only eight carries and 23 yards against the Rams in St. Louis and now is back at No. 2 following his 125-yard performance in Sunday’s victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – with 44 of his yards coming in the 51-yard drive ending with Steven Hauschka’s game-winning field goal in overtime.

“Marshawn was right on it,” coach Pete Carroll said Monday. “He took full advantage of it.”

And the Seahawks took full advantage of Lynch’s every yard, and needed his every yard – especially in overtime when he ran for 10 and 3 yards to open the drive, then added 4-, 14- and 13-yard runs to get Hauschka close enough for a 27-yarder.

As the Seahawks begin to prepare for Sunday’s game against the Falcons in Atlanta, Lynch has 726 rushing yards – 51 behind league-leader LeSean McCoy of the Philadelphia Eagles; 1 ahead of Jamaal Charles of the Kansas City Chiefs and 15 more than the Minnesota Vikings’ Adrian Peterson, who led the league in rushing last season.

But wait, there’s more. Lynch also has seven touchdowns, which ties him for ninth in the league in scoring among non-kickers. He ranks fourth in total yards (923) and he’s also fourth in producing first downs (46).

As quarterback Russell Wilson said after Sunday’s game, “He’s kind of our motto, just being so tough, no matter what the circumstances are. That’s what you love about Marshawn Lynch.”
