When the Seahawks played the Giants last month, they stayed in the same hotel they’ll call home next week and played in the same stadium where they’ll meet the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

A recap of the activities at Virginia Mason Athletic Center for Jan. 21, when the players had their “off” day and the coaches were compiling the game plan for the Seahawks’ matchup against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2:

WORD OF THE DAY: FAMILIARITY

The Seahawks will travel coast to coast, not to mention three time zones, to play in what will be the first Super Bowl for any of the players on the 53-man roster. But they’re also traveling into a comfort zone.

The hotel that will house the NFC team next week for Super Bowl XLVIII is the same hotel the Seahawks stayed in last month for their Week 15 game against the Giants at MetLife Stadium, the same stadium where the Super Bowl will be played on Feb. 2. And the Seahawks also stayed in the same hotel and played in the same stadium in 2011. So they’re 2-0 in their last two games at MetLife Stadium.

In fact, as the Seahawks were departing the hotel on Sunday morning for that Dec. 15 game against the Giants, several hotel employees offered, “See you next month.”

Asked if he had a what-if moment on the field after that game, coach Pete Carroll said, “Well, now that it’s time to talk about it, yeah. I always like using those illustrations, when we’ve been there before and we’ve don’t that. We just try to hold back on that at the time, thinking it was too presumptuous. But we’re fortunate now.

YOU DON’T SAY

“Marshawn Lynch. That was the first person that came to mind. I grew up watching him.”

Broncos second-year linebacker Danny Trevathan, when asked for his initial thoughts on the Seahawks

“We’ll be in the same hotel. We’ve been in that (visiting team) locker room. We’ve played well at that stadium. So hopefully we’ll utilize that, some. It’s just about being comfortable.”

And, the Seahawks also played the Broncos in their second preseason game in August. The Seahawks won 40-10, but Peyton Manning was 11 of 16 for 163 yards and a touchdown before calling it a night midway through the second quarter.

SUPER STUFF: TERRY McAULAY AND RENEE FLEMING

The league announced the officiating crew for the Super Bowl, led by referee Terry McAulay. This will be his third Super Bowl.

Also in the crew Carl Paganelli (umpire), Jim Mello (head linesman), Tom Symonette (line judge), Scott Steenson (field judge), Dave Wyant (side judge) and Steve Freeman (back judge).

It also was announced that soprano and four-time Grammy winner Renee Fleming will perform The Star Spangled Banner.

STAT DU JOUR: IN THE LONG RUN, IT’S MARSHAWN LYNCH

Marshawn Lynch has the four longest scoring runs in franchise playoff history and five of the seven that have covered 10-plus yards:

Player, (opponent, year and round) Yards

Marshawn Lynch (Saints, 2010 wild-card) 67

Marshawn Lynch (49ers, 2013 NFC Championship) 40

Marshawn Lynch (Saints, 2013 divisional) 31

Marshawn Lynch (Redskins, 2012 wild-card) 27

Leonard Weaver (Redskins, 2007 wild-card)  17

Marshawn Lynch (Saints, 2013 divisional) 15

Shaun Alexander (Bears, 2006 wild-card)  13

With his 140- and 109-yard efforts against the Saints and 49ers, Marshawn Lynch is the leading rusher in the postseason with 249 yards – six more than 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. Lynch also is second in total yards (252) and scoring among non-kickers (18 points), and tied for second in first downs (11).

Doug Baldwin leads in kickoff return average (32.5), is tied for fifth in third-down receptions (four) and 10th in receiving yards (136). Steven Hauschka is second in scoring (22 points) and tied for third in touchbacks (six). Jon Ryan is second in net punting average (38.9).

The Seahawks’ defense is No. 6 in average yards (358.5) and passing yards (224.0) allowed and eighth in rushing yards allowed (134.5). On offense, they’re fifth in average rushing yards (144.5), ninth in average yards (292.5) and 12th in average passing yards (148.0). They’re also tied for third in turnover differential (plus-3) and tied for second in turnovers forced (four).

UP NEXT: “COMPETITION WEDNESAY”

It’s a bye week, but the players will return from their “off” day to practice on Wednesday, which is “Competition Wednesday” on the Carroll calendar.
