Seahawks preseason features matchups with the Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bears, and Oakland Raiders.

While not quite as thrilling as the “real thing,” the NFL preseason does offer fans a long sought-after return to live-action football.

The Seahawks’ 2014 preseason schedule was announced today, and the defending Super Bowl champions will meet three of their four preseason opponents in the regular season (Denver, San Diego, Oakland).

Seattle will open the preseason against the same opponent they closed out in Super Bowl XLVIII – the defending AFC champion Denver Broncos – in a Week 1 (Aug. 7-10) game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. They’ll then return home to CenturyLink Field in Week 2 (Aug. 14-18) and Week 3 (Aug. 21-24) for matchups with the San Diego Chargers and Chicago Bears. Finally, the Seahawks will close exhibition play against the Raiders in Oakland, facing off versus the Silver and Black for the ninth consecutive preseason.

The Seahawks have gone 11-5 during preseason in four years under head coach Pete Carroll, a record that includes a mark of 8-0 the past two seasons and a streak of nine in a row dating back to 2011. The games have allowed the Seahawks to explore their depth on both sides of the football, not to mention provide several players the opportunity to emerge and earn starting roles on the regular season roster. Quarterback Russell Wilson’s impressive performances in back-to-back weeks during the 2012 preseason went a long way toward entrenching him as the starter his rookie year (Wilson was 23/36 for 340 yards and 4 TDs in games against the Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs).

Specific dates and times for 2014 preseason games, along with the complete regular season schedule, will be released later this month. But remember, the club’s 2014 regular season opponents are already set.

At CenturyLink Field, the Seahawks will face the Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, and the traditional trio of NFC West foes – the Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams, and San Francisco 49ers. On the road, they’ll meet those same division rivals, as well as the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, and Washington Redskins.

All Seahawks preseason games can be seen on Q13 FOX and heard on 710 AM ESPN Seattle and KIRO Radio 97.3 FM.
