The Super Bowl XLVIII champion Seahawks were honored during a special ceremony prior to the Seattle Mariners’ home opener on Tuesday night at Safeco Field.

The red carpet was literally rolled out for the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday night at Safeco Field, when the Seattle Mariners improved to 5-2 on the season with a 5-3 win over the AL West rival Los Angeles Angels. In what was the 2014 home opener for the club, the Super Bowl XLVIII champions were honored during a special pregame ceremony in front of a sold-out crowd of 45,661.

Quarterback Russell Wilson, linebackers Malcolm Smith, K.J. Wright, Bobby Wagner, and Mike Morgan, wide receiver Jermaine Kearse, tight end Zach Miller, and head coach Pete Carroll were greeted with a standing ovation and chants of “SEA!” – “HAWKS!” as they made their smokescreen and pyrotechnic-filled entrance from right-center field toward the pitcher’s mound.

Super Bowl MVP Smith touted the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy and it was Wilson who tossed the ceremonial first pitch, as the Seahawks added some championship excitement to a day already jam-packed with opening-day pageantry.

Seahawks Honored at Mariners Opener”I’ve been watching the Mariners for a long time, since the A-Rod, Griffey days,” said Kearse, the Lakewood, Wash. native and former University of Washington Husky. “So just to be able to come out here and celebrate with these guys and come to opening day was a lot of fun.”For Wilson, it was a familiar feeling under the lights at one of baseball’s most-beautiful ballparks.

He threw the ceremonial first pitch for the Mariners prior to a game against the New York Yankees last season. The night was also a reminder of just how fun this offseason has been for Wilson and the Seahawks, not to mention a reminder of what he and the club had accomplished to earn this type of recognition.”It’s been great,” Wilson said. “We have a great team. To be around these guys, think about all the hard work we put in and to get awarded with a Super Bowl because of the way we practiced and played on Sundays.”Obviously, the goal is to do it again,” Wilson added with an emphasis always aimed at “What’s next?” “We’re not satisfied with what we’ve done. We’ve got a great football team again next year and we’re looking forward to it.”
