Wednesday is Percy Harvin’s 26th birthday. And after a pain-filled first season with the Seahawks, the receiver/returner/runner already has the best gift anyone could get him – his health.Percy Harvin’s first year as a Seahawk was a pain. From the hip problem that required surgery in August, to the rehab of the procedure that limited him to one regular-season game, to the concussion that knocked him out of the playoff opener, Harvin was limited to a handful of memorable plays after being acquired in a March trade with the Minnesota Vikings.Wednesday is Harvin’s 26th birthday, and the wide receiver/kickoff returner/runner already has the best gift anyone could get him.“It’s a true blessing. I’m just happy to be out here, happy to be healthy right now,” Harvin said Tuesday after the first of the Seahawks’ 10 OTA sessions in Phase 3 of their offseason program.“Last year, I didn’t know exactly what the hip problem was, so I just kind of pushed through the whole offseason. I didn’t get the work like I wanted to get it.”Asked about the hip, Harvin offered, “This is probably the best I’ve felt since before college.”Harvin’s contributions to the Seahawks’ run to the first Super Bowl championship in franchise history were limited, but impactful. In that one regular-season game – against the Vikings – he returned a kickoff 58 yards and made a falling catch of a 17-yard pass. In the playoff opener against the New Orleans Saints, Harvin had a team-high three receptions for 21 yards and a 9-yard run before getting the concussion that also forced him to sit out the NFC Championship game. But in the 43-8 romp over the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl, Harvin returned the second-half kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and also had two carries for a game-high 45 yards.“The Super Bowl, for me, it made everything good and I was able to let some of the madness out from missing the whole season,” he said. “But after I got home, I was just unsettled. I felt that I had a lot more to give. I don’t feel I made my mark on the season like I wanted to.”So we extend Harvin the happiest of pain-free birthday wishes, and look forward to all the things a healthy Harvin can deliver in 2014.
